Stein Frayman

Multi-media Artist & Performer

‘Devotions’ are my compassionate pleas to the Lord of Heavens for people I meet. I craft artworks as prayers, devoted to veneration and as an appeal to intervene with grace in the lives of people I meet. My work spans events, festivals, collections, and museums across the Netherlands.

Why?

I feel that aesthetics can resonate with how people respond emotionally to events in their lives. A prayer does not require words, but a genuineness and a true belief that the Lord of Heavens listens and acts.

How?

I craft art as prayer – often in response to struggles of individuals and groups affected by current affairs and the stories people share with me. Sometimes I pray in response to the beauty of Creation. All are visual prayers. My work is devoted to prayers send to heaven and to collaboration with people and nature, both expressions of a shared gratefulness and grief.

With whom?

Together with fellow ‘truthstorians’ – artists, human rights workers and journalists, I search to do justice to how we emotionally respond to what happens in the real.
