Encaustic is a beeswax technique. The oldest preserved paintings are the Fayum portraits. The beeswax encapsulates each pigment particle. The technique is durable. The bees in my backyard food forest provide the wax. Because some of the works feature icons, I started to call them affectionately ‘encausticons’.
